Recently, Shenyang Sanland Mining Engineering Co., Ltd. started the shell liner installation of an MQY2745 ball mill manufactured for an overseas customer. The mill shell is positioned on turning rollers, fitted with internal radial support tooling to maintain shell roundness, and the liner bolts are inserted from outside the shell and tightened block by block as the installation proceeds.

For a mid-to-large grinding mill, liner installation quality is built on machining accuracy. The shell has gone through rolling, longitudinal and circumferential welding, stress relief, and flange machining on a large horizontal lathe, with liner bolt holes and the manhole drilled to the drawing so that every hole matches its liner. During installation, liners are delivered by zone, trial-fitted block by block, and installed symmetrically from the bottom shell upward. The fit gap between each liner and the shell is checked with feeler gauges, bolts are tightened diagonally in stages with torque recorded, and the radial support tooling keeps the shell stable throughout the process.

As the wear part that takes the impact of grinding media directly, liner installation quality affects service life and performance. Loose fit or uneven tightening causes liner loosening, bolt breakage and shell wear, while hole deviation leads to rework on site. Sanland inspects and records fit gaps, bolt torque and stagger dimensions during installation, so liners carry load evenly in operation, last longer, run quieter, and provide an accurate reference for on-site installation and future spare part replacement.

Following the shell liners, end liners, the girth gear, trunnion bearings and other assemblies will be installed and inspected under the same process, with incoming material inspection, welding, machining dimensions, assembly alignment and final testing recorded for full traceability.
